Default Struts: Which one is better? KYB or regular OEM?

I need to change my front struts (both). I dont know which quality/brand to get. I shopped around my area for better price. One guy told me to go for KYB GR2 struts, which is better than OEM parts. KYB GR2 runs about $100 each pc. Other guy told me to go for OEM parts which parts alone cost me over $300. So, guys help me out here, I am a student and I need to save some money here, but I love my car. I don't want to install bad/lucrative parts in my car. So, Any suggestion will be greatfully taken.

Well, KYB GR2s are certainly good struts. However, their reliability is spotty - some say they last 100k miles, others say they blow out after 10k. Because of that, I decided to go with OEM. I got slightly used CL Type-S shocks for about the same price that I would have paid for GR2's - they offer a slightly stiffer ride than stock, more body control, and will probably last just as long as my originals (135k miles).

GR2s are decent aftermarket OEM replacements. I have put them on my 95 somewhat recently and so far so good. We'll see. I think you would be fine with them if you wanted to give them a shot.

I would say the ride quality is every bit as good if not a tad better than OEM.

I ordered my KYB Gr2s from the tirerack and they came with a liftime warranty. I've been pleased with them.
