Default Suspension - Shocks and springs?

My 97 accord ex needs replacement on suspension as mentioned in the above subject line. I am considering purchasing a set that maintains more or less a stock ride height (but can be lowered up to 1"). Stiffness and ride feel I prefer to be a little more stiff then stock feel but not too rough of a normal drive. Can anyone suggest a good combination including model names. Many have suggested tiens with kyb's or bilsteins. In addition, what forces should be for the front and rear? ie: 560 ft/lbs front and 336 ft/lbs rear.

Sounds like you just want a mild "adjustment."

For what they are... KYB GR2s are a good choice for an OEM replacement. They are close to OEM ride if not a little better.

You could use them with the stock shock or you could use the H&R OEM kit that drops a whooping .25" which is about as mild as it gets for drops.

Check the shock web sites or contact tirerack.com or someone about the compression rates. tirerack.com sells both items too.

Thanks. I've also looked at Eibach Pro Kit with KYB AGX shocks. They have a sale going for ~625 shipped. I'm not exactly sure what the stock compression rates are... if anyone has a ballpark value that would be great.

Prokit will drop a bit more than 1", but it's a mild drop. It'll ride probably more like stock than anything other than maybe H&R OE springs. Just make sure you get decent shocks as well, and you'll be good to go.

If your OE equipement is beat and your looking for a quality replacement w/o any real performance gains.. I think the H&R OE springs and KYB GR-2 will be a very nice combo ..

While they are popular because of their pricing... I don't recommend the KYB AGX adjustables. They really do not seem to be an overall good shock. Save your money and step up to at least some Tokicos or even Konis.

I have Tokico Illuminas and couldn't be happier. The adjustability allows them to be paired with a wide spectrum of springs, without having to have them revalved like Konis. Granted I have about a 3inch drop, but even down there, the ride is fair and there is next to no bouce whatsoever... a very good shock for nearly any spring.

True, Konis do need to be re-valved over a certain compression rate for a given car.. Re-valving is something that should be taken into consideration.
