Just a word of advice ... if you can't get the gauges apart, take it as a sign and stop while you're ahead. I've seen this 100's of times in the past where an inexperienced person ends up creating the following threads:
broke a needle, now what?
wired the gauges, now my dash won't light up

Haynes or Helms should be able to help you. I used Haynes when I pulled part of the dash out of my 95 to replace a tach. light. It's just not fun because it's fastened down by tons of screws....
