Default A story...

So yesterday I was driving to circuit city to get some new 6 1/2" speakers for my 91 Honda Accord and everything was going fine, after I got them I was headed home on the highway and I decided to stop and get a drink and 7-11, a Sobe to be exact. Then on the off ramp some jackass decides he should pass me on the right side before he gets off on the same exit! He came out of nowehre, so he's about halfway up on the side of my car when see him in my rearview mirror. He was really close to me. Next thing I know I lay on my brakes, skid and slam into the curb on the offramp (thank god it was just a curb) and he zooms past with out even a glance. It all happened so fast. I don't even remember what kind of car it was, something silver. He was some kid, probably drunk or something. So I pull into the first parking lot after i got off the highway and look at the damage, jacked up the wheel and tire.

I sat there for probably about half an hour pissed off going over the events in my mind thinking what the hell happened. It really shook me up. That is the worst accident I have ever been in with me driving. Going home I realize I now have to have my steering wheel turn to the left about three inches to go straight, I figured it was the alignment.

Today I went in to get an alignment and they tell me that there is far more damage. I need sway bar linkage, lower control arms(both sides), and rod ends on top of the alignment which I now cannot do with these damaged parts. The estimate was about $800 for them to do it. Oh yea, and the wheel is tweaked out shaped so I will need another one of those(~$120 used). They also said I shouldn't drive it for more than a week without fixing it or it will wear the front left tire down until it is unuseable. All this for speakers and a Sobe, it was the last thing I expected to happen, then again accidents always are.

Just goes to show how good days turn into bad ones real fast. This is not how I wanted to spend money on my car, I was thinking more along the lines of getting a new hood to get rid of a small dent in the front that prevented in from latching properly, that was the worst problem, not anymore though.

Could have been worse though, like death, that'd be pretty bad too. Its a good thing my tire stopped at the curb and not over the embankment on the other side. To everyone out there on the road, watch what your doing, for your sake and the sake of others as well. Drive carefully please! It really wakes you up and makes you think when you have an incident like this happen to you.

Peace out.

That sucks. My accord went down similarly. Someone made a left hand turn from the right lane on a one way street and I was in the left lane. I missed hitting them by about a foot and of course they were a-holes and ran away. I hit a 9" high curb at 35mph, did about $15,000 worth of damage. They said if I had stock rims on it might have bounced up the curb with marginal damage, but instead my little 18" 40 series tire blew, shattered the rim and moved the drivers side subframe back about 4"s. The shittiest part was that even though it was that closeto blue book, they fixed it, that's why I got rid of it.

Glad you're ok though, that's all that matters.

$15000 of damage now that sucks, its good to see people walk away after accidents with that much damage. 35mph thats about what i hit the curb at to, but i dont have 18" just the stock 15"
thanks for your concern and your response though
nice new ride though, i checked that out, its sweet

It was strange because it didn't look too awful, but they had to replace the entire front subframe, cut out the drivers firewall and a-pillar and weld a new piece in, replace the entire drivers suspension, both airbags front airbargs and airbag computer, both seatbelt pre-tensioners, and a whole bunch of other crap. The scariest thing was when they put it on a frame machine to straighten it because there was a little wrinkle on the roof showing serious frame damage. They hooked it up on this wierd platform with chains going everywhere underneath. They hang these little reflective targets in specific places on the car then use hydraulics to pull a particular chain until the targets line up to what the specs are for the car.

I'm thankful for airbags, but man are those freaking things scary, sound like a gunshot, the saddest thing was hearing the dipshit take off while the cabin was still filled with smoke from the bags, by the time it cleared and I got out they were a few blocks up.

never would have guessed this was so much money to fix

Wow...15k. Thats nuts. I may have had the cheapest big accident ever. Tryin to get back to work from visitin friends at college for a weekend over the summer... 75 in the rain (yeah I know its stupid). Hydroplaned, spun around backwards on the interstate (scary as shit going 75), went back end into a ditch, spun the front of the car up the side of a hill next to the road, car rolled on its back and skidded for another 400 feet, constantly splitting the difference between a row of trees and a busy highway.... what this cost me---- 5 grand to fix everything. Only thing that saved me was the super muddy ground, car just slid and not too much broke. Cop said it was one of the craziest things he's seen. I know it was stupid, I was just wishin basic physics dont apply when you are late for work... not the case

While we are on the topic of accidents and stupid people(just kidding) my friend got a brand new 2005 honda civic last thursday. friday night she is parked on the street(parallel parking) to go to a party at her friends house. well that night some douche bag backs into her completly messing up her hood and grill, and of course, left without leaving any information. she didn't even see it that night(you can't tell from inside), she saw it the next morning before work. she came into work in tears, the estimate was about $2500. she said it was some giant SUV in front of her too...
hadn't even had the car for much more than a day, that blows. take responsibilty for your actions people!

sometimes I think should I really try to avoid to hit these assholes when I get in similar situation? What is the differnce if you hit a carb and have it fixed for $15k or you hit that moron and have your car fixed for about the same money.
Well of course it depends on situation but in stories I've read here you guys could hit them and at least know who they are.

ya, i agree in my case hitting the car would have been way worse. it probably would of spun the back end of my car around and i might have gone over the embankment and down the hill, maybe even rolled my car, i don't know though. but with illusion's $15K damage, it probably would have been better to just hit the car.
