Default check engine light

i was just on the internet and i was reading in a couple of different forums about how the 96 and 97 accords' have an extended 14 year 150000 mile warranty. that if the check engine comes on, they are required to fix it for you. my question is who will fix it? will any honda dealership fix it? i got mine used and not from a dealership. who do i have to call or what do i have to do.....any help would be greatly appreciated. thnx.

Has to be done by a Honda dealer assuming the check engine light
is emission relative, they will fix it.
A bonus, if your car has 75K to 150K they will throw in a free
oil change, plus cap, rotor, wires, plus plugs as long it hasn't been done
already under the campaign..

scanrps hit it right on the nail. Bring it your Honda dealership. If the emissions light is on for an emissions related problem (which, it usually is) they will repair it free of charge. However, keep in mind that if the repair insn't emissions related, and not covered under the extended warranty... you have to pay for the diagnostics. In my experience with these cars, the problem is usually a bad 02 sensor...which is covered under the warrany. When my light came on, I took my car to Auto Zone to have the codes pulled for free (their diagnostics isn't as accurate or specific... but it will at least give you a general idea) and then I went to the Honda dealership and asked for a copy of everything the warranty coveres. It's a two page list. I found that the 02 sensors were on there, and so I got it repaired at the dealer. The problem with my car was a failed secondary 02 sensor. It had 140,000 miles. I also got the one free tune-up at 90,000 miles.

what year is your car?

I believe the warranty covered 95-97 Hondas w/ the V6 and 96-97 Hondas with the 4-cylinder... excluding the Passport.

Does not matter who you bought it from. All they need is your vin# for them to check if anything has been done under the campaign.
