Default Help needed in diagnosing 91 auto tranny

Hi all - I need some serious help in figuring out what to do next. I previously had a 92 EX - tranny went out at 164k. I paid to have that one rebuilt. As the login name implies, I'm not doin' that again!

I now hve a 91 LX. 160k - guess what?! Slight slippage has given way to extreme slippage - I could only get a response if I shut off the car and restarted later, and then... not for very long. Flooring it just yields high revs, no go. Am I busted again? I replaced with OFFICIAL EXPENSIVE ATF fluid from the dealer about a year ago, trying to get more life.

I am half-threatening to drop the tranny and replace with a JDM off of ebay - plenty on there in the 60k-100k zone.

What do you advise? I could drop the tranny myself, and then bring it to the shop, but am I just wasting money? How will I know if it is just my torque converter? Could the TCU do this???? I would not think so....

PS - I can get a replacement tranny off of ebay for $250-$350 plus $100 freight.

Advice, PLEASE!!!

Thanks MUCH!!
