Default 92 Lx Stuck In Park

I've got a well-maintained '92 Accord sedan, with just 126,000 miles. Today, without warning, I was unable to shift from park without first using the shift reset slot. What's wrong?????? Is this going to cost me more than the car is worth????

Check the fuse first for the shift interlock solenoid. I think its in the underhood fuseblock. Do you hear a clicking sound when the brake pedal is pressed? Sometimes, the cold weather causes this.

Can you shift into 1st and D2? It sounds like the linkage is ok.

while you're at it with the fuses...see if you have working brake lights. If they're not coming on, it's a sign that the switch itself might've failed, which supplies power to the shift release solenoid.
