Default 6th gen V6 EGR valve questions...

I have ignored (no driveability issues) a CEL for over a year now due to a bad EGR valve but have decided to get it fixed. I know there was a recall on the 6th gen V6's but was over 80k when recalled, so no freebee.

Is the dealer the only place the buy this? ($176 a year ago)

Has anyone successfully cleaned a 6th gen V6 EGR?

I had that problem with my CL (same engine) and one time they (Acura) took it out and cleaned the valve... but the problem is back again now (a year later) but i'm still under warranty so I'm going to have them change it. You could try to clean it (if you can find it, I have no idea where it is) as a temporary solution. And last I knew the recall was good for cars up to 100,000 miles, as its a recall, nothing to do with the cars warranty.

Thanks. A year ago I took the EGR off and sprayed the ports out with contact cleaner but it didn't help. I think it is necessary to take it apart to scrape out the carbon - that is my guess.

I don't recall the exact numbers, but I did read the recall letter that I received from Honda and it was clear about a maximum number of miles which I had already exceeded. I'll double check with the dealer.
