Honda 2.4L - How much oil?
I have an 05 Accord. Manual says it takes 4.4 quarts. I added 4.6 so far, and 24 hours later, after filling it up, it's still a tad below the full mark. I think these engines can take 5 quarts. Anyone else notice this? Safe to fill it to the top mark? I guess I'm wondering if Honda wants the oil level to be in the middle....
NEVER EVER over fill the motor. If it says 4.4, add 4.4. Too much oil is hazardous to the motor. Make sure you added the correct amount. The level should be checked when the engine is cool, and the car is on a level surface.
Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm well aware of the danger of over filling. Here is what I'm saying. 4.4Quarts in my car only takes the oil level on the dipstick to the 1/2 way mark. Not quite at the hole or full mark. Some have said adding 4.4 quarts in the same engine does take it to the full mark. I'm not worried about it, just trying to understand why and if I should add more then 4.4 to make it hit the full mark. Car has always been on level ground and oil checked when engine is cold, usually 12 hours later. My car can take about 5 quarts to reach the full mark. I'm guessing that Honda does this so you leave some room for error because over filling is quite common, especially at quick lube places like IffyLube. Luckily I do my own oil changes.
*Just noticed but my manual states that the oil level should be between add and full.

1/2 a quart won't hurt, but this is why I do my own oil changes. Paying someone $5 an hour doesn't exaclty get you the best service.
I've heard many horror stories with quick lube places. Ummm, like the one that forgot to put oil back in my wife's car. Unreal........
