What you removed was the idle air control valve. Was the screen at all clogged with carbon? You can clean it by spraying carb cleaner on it or throttle body cleaner. Check the hose to the pcv as well. I have had one collapse on me and pinch closed. I replaced mine with some fuel line with small hose clamps. Much more solid than the original hose
