Default try this one on for size

My sister has a 91 accord automatic and when taking off under normal acceleration the motor sputters and bogs but if you tramp on it it works fine. Also if in park it idles fine and works fine, even if you try and revv it up there is no sputter at all. And on the highway it works great. It seems to be linked to the tranny. But the tranny seems fine just due to the fact that it works fine under hard acceleration. I am thinking that there may be some sort of vacuum leak or something but I really don't know what to look for. She is a single mom raising 2 beautiful girls and loves her Honda (it's her first) therefore I am hoping that it isn't much to fix. Thanks,

It could be, but if that was the case wouldn't it do it when in park as well? if you revv the motor a little? That's what throws me why doesn't it do it when in isn't in gear?

Theirs no load on the engine while its in park so it may not sputter. See if you can hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the car and see what its reading.

could be a faulty TPS sensor

could be a bad motor mount

could be bearings going bad (if over 100k miles...)

bad motor mount wont cause ur car to bog.

When my 02 accord had 20k miles I came across a similiar problem.
I went to take off from the light and the car started to sputter.
As long as I drove slow the car wouldnt bog. Only when I floor it ( indication that more fuel is needed )

I believe and also Honda believed that I had bad gasoline.
The problem never happend again. Honda couldnt even figure out the problem.

So maybe it could be fuel related.

clogged injectors, clogged line,. I would try and use that fuel injector cleaning stuff.

Thanks guys but it is clogged egr ports. Does anyone know if it is OK to run the car with the EGR vacuum line disconnected? Has anyone cleaned the ports themselves? Is it that hard to do?

Had the same thing in a '91. Best done at a dealer or at least a mechanic who knows the procedure. Some drilling involved. Only cost me $160 at the time...but they were being generous.

buy a thing of injector cleaner, it will work good, do this about every 2-4 months and it should fix her up.. you may need to add it to the first 2 or 3 fill-ups just to get it all cleaned out, but generally it works pretty well

:edit: i'm a moron for not reading the entire thread
