Default 99 Honda Accord Transmission problem

I have a 99 Honda Accord (4-cyl) with automatic transmission. It shifts correctly when it is cold but when it gets warmed up, the transmission jumps back and forth and when accelerating, it will not allow the engine to exceed 4000rpms. The check engine light is on.

A friend checked it and advised me it was the transmission but 1) why is the check engine light on and 2) what is it in the transmission that prevents the engine from exceeding 4000rpms when accelerating. (in cruise it will exceed 4000rpm but not when you push the accelerator to the floor)

Check your engine oil, if its real low VTEC will not engage. And will create that shuddering sensation and throw a CEL for the vtec solenoid. Fill the oil, reset the code and drive the car. That should fix the problem, that is if you didnt screw up your engine from not running enough oil!

hmm, I never heard of this before. Get that checked out ASAP before anything bad happens to the transmission (if it has anything to do with it ofcourse)

Well the first step is to find out what the CEL means.

go to autozone and get ur cel check for free and sine is free this is why people need to see what code/problem is telling u before anything, could be serious could b nothing but u dont want to be sorry at the end, plus is free to check it. Also if i were u i would change the tansmission fluid with some honda ATF.

When i had CEL on and tranny acted funny converter didn't lock up when I was on freeway. This caused engine works at 4000 rpm instead of 3000 rpm when I was going 80 M/H. It was just a lost connection in harness plug.

take your car to honda. they should replace your trans for free. i had this happen to me 2 yrs ago. (exact thing) there was a recall back then about the trans slipping. this should be covered. (honda replaced my tranny and and warranty'd it for another 7 yrs. also they will reset your computer system . make sure you bring all your keys so they can reprogram htem. if not they will charge about $40 a key to reprogram.
