Default rough gear engagement when cold

dunno if this symptom is the start of a serious problem. i have '95 accord ex, manual tranny, 105k miles. when the engine's still cold and i put it in 1st gear and start to let the clutch pedal go, the gear engages so roughly that the whole car starts to shake i'd have to play with my clutch pedal a bit to get it to fully engage without stalling. however, if i let it warm up for a few minutes, the gear engages smoothly with the car not shaking. i already replaced my tranny fluid but didn't help. is this a sign that the clutch needs to be replaced pretty soon if it is, how hard is that to do or how much should i expect to pay someone to do it. thnx for any input.

I think is the same case in automatic. sometimes is rough when the car still cold and shakes. so i think is normal. let it warm up at least a min.

dunno if this is related at all. i also seem to need to refill my clutch master cylinder reservoir quite often...about every couple of months. is this a sign of a worn out clutch that needs to be replaced soon? my 95 ex has about 106k miles on it. i'm not the original owner, so i'm just assuming this is still the original clutch.

it may be a sign of a master brake cylinder going out.

yea...in winter...when i used to drive with my car still kind of cold....my car used to shake in 1st...but as it warmed up it was fine!

i think its just the coldness...nothing else to worry about.
my master cylinder for teh clutch is also bad (you can tell by lookin under teh clutch pedal, you will see a rod going thru the firewall of the car, if it is leaking, you will need to change it) but that didnt' cause shaking...it just doesn't let teh car go into any gears and leaves me stuck in neutral

Default I know what this is!! Read further...

Hey man,

Ive got 2 accords, a 94 and a 95. Both Manual and identical....

My 95 has 144K miles on it and went through all this before. Now my 94 with 95K is doing the same thing.... Here is what I think you've got...

The problems are unrelated. The bigger prob is that you are losing DOT 3 in your clutch resivoir... that means your master cylinder is prolly leaking. Get down and look up at where the shaft from the pedal enters the cylinder (on the fire wall) and see if it's wet. What typicially happens is the cylinder gets crap in the ends and when you bottom the clutch pedal in, that crap gets into the seal and ruins it. If its leaking (both mine did) then you need to get the master cylinder replaced. Do it sooner than later, DOT 3 is nasty stuff which can eat through paint, carpet, etc....

The jerking prob is moisture on the clutch disk... not a damn thing you can do about it, except power through your clutch-out a little bit more, as you say you are. I'm told its a stock clutch thing thats well known. My 145K mile did it for a year or so, and then lasted 3 more and then finally wore out. The 95K car is jerking out of 1st in the morning now too....

Hope this helps....
