Default Fuel pump issue or no?

95 Accord EXL 4cyl 4dr
183.5K miles

My D4 has flashed one evening several times. Hasn't since. My car cut off that same evening at 45-50 mph but restarted. Now my car is getting difficult to start. Seems to have normal amount of juice and spark.

While I know it could be several things, it seems like the most logical would be the fuel pump. Does this sound like a fuel pump issue? Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

flashing d4 usually indicates severe transmission issues ... but this sounds pretty bad.

i'm thinking it could also be a busted alternator.

I was thinking alternator too; but here's the thing... Dash lights and headlights are not dimming any at all that I can tell which is usually an indicator of a bad alt. That was actually my first guess but the car will crank and run. Two, that wouldn't just KILL the engine at speed either. Welll... Would it?

And yes, to the other point, "D4" flashing usually is a sign of tranny problems. The thing of it is is that my tranny seems to be fine for the most part and it hasn't flashed again either. I also read in the official Honda service manual that the D4 flashing can be triggered due to a PGM-FI issue which lead me to my most recent theory of the fuel pump being bad.....

if your alternator bad, it'll kill your electrical system on the spot. basically, it'll feel like someone just pulled the plug from your car instantly. everything from your ecu to your power steering would be shot.

So if "D4" were flashing and I was driving along at 45 mph and the car shut off, even without the headlights dimming, that could still be the alt?

The flashing "D4" is tied to the tranny and even the PGM-FI as far as I've been able to find out. Is the alt? Of course, I also realize that with 183.5K miles, it's just about time for a new alt. as well anyway....
