I took my Trans Am to the track the very next day after I bought it and made a couple passes w/ 200 miles on the clock. Been driving it hard ever since. Have 56k miles, and so far engine is still rock solid. The LS1s have a tendency to burn a little oil, but the break-in period doesn't seem to have much affect. I lose approx. half a quart every 3,000 miles, regardless if I drove it easily or beat the @#%$ out of it. Some owners lose more than that.
I bought the Accord with 45k already on it, so not sure how the original owners broke it in. Have 164k now, and still runs the same as I did when I bought it, w/ no problems whatsoever. The engine doesn't lose a drop of oil between 4-5k mile intervals.
IMO, it won't make a difference... it's mostly for peace of mind than anything.
I would avoid hard braking for the first few miles, as this will likely extend the life of your brakes in the long run.
