i would go no more than 1.5 inches. Thats gonna be a tight fit I believe.
Also keep the road condition in mind when lowering your car. You dont wanna go to low and end up bottoming out.

If you have nice smooth roads than perhaps you could get away with a lower drop.
Mine is lowered no more than an inch all around which is barely anything.

1 inch drop with 18s will not be a risk of bottoming out. Thats what i have on my 95. The coilovers are just good for like season changes, you can adjust them a little higher if you want in raining/snow seasons. Any suspension mods you make also need some time to break in, so after the springs set in, the cars height changes again, so you would be able to readjust coilovers to the right height you want. It is a pretty tight fight for 18's. RIght now my front is sitting almost stock because I haven't wanted to lower my front to test if it will rub or not. The back is sitting about just over an inch drop, with the same size rubbers, and it looks sweet. The biggest difference would be in ride quality. Unless you get true coilovers, the coilover sleeves will be a little ruffer ride. If you just go for springs you would have to go with the eibach pro kit. which is a slight drop, about inch and a half I think. But then you might run the risk of rubbing the front. Maybe someone else here can give you and me some insight on that so I dont adjust my front coilovers, find that it's rubbing and then have to raise it again.

the biggest reason people bottom out is because they've got race/sport springs or coilovers on stock shocks, or shocks that are just set too soft. with the right offset, suspension stiffness, you can fit 18's and tuck'em without bottoming out or rubbing. i've seen it done. i've got 17x7.5's on my accord on ground control coilovers, tokico illumina shocks. i've never bottomed out or rubbed...things dropped 2+ inches all around. and i love the way it rides. i dont bounce, or bottom out or any of that other stuff. just remember, the lower you go, the stiffer the shocks need to be to keep things level. i keep my suspension set pretty stiff, but i never was one that liked a car moving a whole lot after a bump or anything. i want to hit the bump, crack in the road, whatever, have the suspension react, and be back to solid as quick as possible. just make sure you take the time to make sure you get the right sizes/offset for the wheels and tires, and if you get coilovers or springs, make sure you get a good adjustable racing shock with it and set them accordingly and you shouldn't have any problems
