Default honda engine problems

I have a 99 Accord LX Vtec 4 cylinder with 82,000. Until recently this car has been impecably reliable. I have always followed honda recommended maintenace program. I found engine oil in my radiator and also the antifreeze overflow reservoir was full of oil. The oil dipstik was showing low. My mechanic says I need a another engine ($3,000 job) because he said the engine block is cracked. I thought maybe the head gasket but he did not believe so. Do you think he is right. This is a big shock to me because I thought I would get at least another 100,000 miles from this car. What do you think about the price, 1200 for used engine with 30 to 40K from japan, 200-300 for a tune-up parts, 1500 for labor. I am in a very tough situation financially, do you think honda would help. This is unprecedented for honda autos.

are you getting an H22 swap, or are you paying all this money for a stock motor?

Go on ebay, used f23s sell for 500-800. How the shit did the block crack? I might go back to wherever you got the car an complain.

No idea how/why this engine cracked. I treated it very well, no crazy modifications, drove it from point A to B without any issues. maintained it according to honda's recomendations. Dealer said that honda may help, however they want the dealer to diagnose the problem at a minimum of 5 hours @90 $/Hr to diagnose the problem. I can't afford this. I picked up a junked engine with ~40K miles for $400 and a friends's buddy mechanic will be installing it for $500-600 +250-260 for major tune up parts. I may have this car up and going for under $1300.00. I am just hoping I am happy with the results of the install. I am expecting, nothing but impecable performance from this car. Are my expectations to high!!!

If you call Honda customer service and bitch enough, and have proof of your maintenance and oil changes, they'll give you a free engine I'd bet. This is unacceptable and either a very very rare factory defect or a result of poor maintenance...if it's not the latter, then Honda would (I'm sure) like to take a look at the engine and see what went wrong.

I might have guessed head gasket, but now I recall a bulletin about problems with the engine blocks themselves, that it will intermix coolant with the oil. The break is internal in the actual crankcase itself if I'm not mistaken.
