Default Emission System Warranty Extension?

Looking at http://www.alldata.com/TSB/24/972425AL.html I see that there is a warranty extension on the Emission system for a 97 Accord EX. Anyone know if this covers the "EGR Flow Inadequate" error message on the CEL? My wife's car has about 125,000 miles on it and her CEL has come on twice in the past couple weeks. The second time that happened, we took it to the auto parts store (Advance... we don't like Auto Zone...) and they said the error message translated to "EGR Flow Inadequate" and a former Honda repairman told us that there was a recall on that. On the other hand, NHTSA has no record of any such recall... *shrug*

Thanks in advance... Please CC any responses to me at: mrmaxx (at) Spamcop (dot) Net. Thanks.

If you've got a 97 then I can't say for sure what extended warranties apply, but I'd imagine it's the same as the 98-01 V6 Accords. Honda extended the warranty range to 80,000 miles for faulty EGR systems. This covers the codes P0401 (insufficient EGR flow) and P1491 (insufficient EGR lift). Honda makes an EGR pipe kit that fixes the problem - basically they bore out the EGR port and install a pipe in it. A Honda dealership should charge around $125 (can't remember the exact number) for the part and no more than a few hours of labor.

The check engine light on my 01 V6 started coming on when the car had 82k miles and it turned out that insufficient EGR flow was the problem. One Honda dealership gave me an estimate of $350 for the labor which I thought was too steep. I took it to another dealership and they estimated $200 for labor so I took it there (which was just today actually.) Even though I was just above the 80k extended coverage, they fixed it under warranty before I even got a chance to ask them to, so I left without spending a cent. You may be able to get the same done with yours, but 125k might be too high. Never hurts though.

75,000- 150,000 miles
If the Check Engine Light is on,
take the car to A Honda dealer,
they have to fix whatever is causing the light to come on;
And do {once} a Full tune up, and Oil/filter change.

Tell them you want service under campaign # 98-081.

Thanks, but I just found this info out last week,
and the thread was so Old, I had a hard time finding it.

If I hadn't found the info here, on this site,
I wouldn't have known to ask at the Honda Dealership,
to have them run the VIN, for recalls, etc.

I just went to buy a new EGR Valve at the local Honda dealer,
and took the VIN # with me, and asked if there were any
recalls on the Accord.

The parts Manager ran the VIN for me, and said, yes there is
a recall on the Emissions.

The car got the free Tune up, oil/filter change,
and the EGR valve, replaced, and EGR ports cleaned.
