cold cathode fluorescent light

it's not very hard. most cold cathode kits for computers come witih 12v inverters. the car's power running to most things, like interior lights and the cigarette lighter are 12v, so all you have to do is find one you want to use, and tap into it. you'll have to figure out when you want them to come on, of course. the cig lighter will be always on when the key is turned, i think (at least in the 5th gen it is), so that's a good option. you might want to find a way to mount a switch to turn them on or off, too. mine are exactly like that.

I really want to connect it with the dorm light power so everytime I open the door, the footwell light will come on as well. I just don't know which wire to splice?

the car will output 14.4 volts when it is running, so use a voltage regulator or resisitors to keep the voltage down to 12v.
