Default Intakes

I've debating getting an intake for my 99 Accord but I'm still undecided about getting the cold air intake or short ram..mainly b/c I dont really understand the pros and cons of the 2... One person had told me there really isn't a difference in power but if you live in an area that it rains a lot or there are a lot of puddles then I should go with the short ram.. Any advice? Its a 4 cyl manual transmission...

Thanks!

I'm happy with my short ram.

I don't think it improved performance, but it sounds awesome.

Short ram is a much easier install, and cheaper. there would be a little power differerce between short ram and cold air. AEM or Injen both are good choices

don't worry too much about hydrolocking if you live in an area with a lot of rain. if you drive with common sense and don't drive thru a puddle a CAI will be safe. a CAI will give you a little more hp in the upper RPMs while the short ram will give you a little bit lower range power. they both sound nice when you stomp on the gas and its a fun mod, if its your first mod. I've had my CAI on for almost 4 years without a problem. if you are eventually looking for some serious hp gains save up for a turbo, or a nitrious kit.

I also agree with carnut21, AEM and Injen intakes are both great products.

But wait there's more...

Either intake will make your whole motor sound bigger and with more bass. You'll prolly want an exhaust after you get used to the intake, which will top off the sound nicely. The only drawback is you'll have a loud hissing sound from your engine bay, but it shouldn't bother you that much. I forget mines there unless I hear my car running from 20 or 30 feet.
I'd go with the Injen just cause I got the AEM for my civic, and for my next car I want something different.

not a bad price.

what are your goals for the accord anyway? a fun daily driver? or do you want to eventually be able to hang with mustangs?
I'd recommend suspension next if you continue to mod the accord. its one of the most fun things you can do to the accord besides a turbo.
