cold start problem
Hi
I have a 87 Honda Accord (carb equipped model). Ever since it started to get cold the engine idles rough for a couple of minutes until it has reached a certain temperature.
The engine will sputter at about 1500 rpm when it should be at 2500. I will give it some gas to worm up a bit faster so the idle will "smooth out" then it goes to it's usual 2500rpm to worm up. It only seems to do this the first start of the day.
Can anyone help?

The air bypass circuit that regulates the engine idle speed might need cleaning. There also could be a vacuum hose loose as well. The last thing ot check could be the EGR valve (exhaust gas recovery). If that's not functioning properly, too muich exhaust could be returning to the engine causing the engine to run lean. Running lean while could might cause it to run rough and stumble.
