Default Shift cable or tranny problem? Help!

Hi everyone!
I am new and I've been stuck with this problem for a long time...I've been having a hard time getting the shifter out of Park on my Honda Accord LX 1992. Until recently, I have a hard time getting it into park. Today, it looks like I can't get it out of D2. No matter where my shifter is, it is stuck on D2. I think the cable is broken since it feels kind of lose now. I've ordered a new cable but do you think that it is the cable that is causing the tight shifting problem or the tranny that is causing the cable to break? Please let me know. Thanks!

Tony

I took the cable out yesterday and it was heavily corroded. I can't even move it. Today, I am waiting for a new cable to come in. I could shift to all positions on the tranny so the shifter cable is the trouble.
