Default Coolant

hey guys,
got a question...i'm going to change my coolant. there are 2 kinds of coolant, PG (propylene glycol) and EG (ethylene glycol). Prestone has both EG and Low tox coolant which is PG (environment friendly). i don't know what Honda Geniune Coolant is made of....would PG or EG coolants make any difference for honda engines? i mean assuming honda coolant is EG (Toxic), if i go with Prestone Low tox will my engine get overheat or break down?

thanks

Don't buy anything except Genuine Honda coolant. Other coolants can deteroiate your water pump. It's nothing to screw around with to save $4.

Your worried about polluting the air??? A coolant system is enclosed.

Wow. Then why are you driving a car? Public transportation is a good means. I'm not even gonna start on this. Do whatever you want, but don't come back and whine when your car is ****ed up because you wanted to hug a tree.

The main thing to look for is a coolant that is borate and silcate free. Most long life coolants typically are, but if it doesnt say so on the bottle, skip it. Any coolant that has borates & silicates can do a number on your water pump, so avoid them at all costs.

no i mean the coolant itself is toxic, if animal or kids get to it, it will hurt their skins, so it shouldn't be dumped anywhere except recycling centers. EG is better for us and the environment cuz it's less dense than PG (regular coolant). i wasn't talking about the air......sorry about the misunderstanding.

Then be responsible and bring it to the proper recycling center. I'm just saying, I've been told by Honda technicians and read in the Honda service manuals that anything except for speciality Genuine Honda coolant has a tendency to deteriorate the water pump far faster than Honda coolant does. Don't you think there's probably a reason that Honda coolant is so dense and that there's probably a reason why they don't use the "enviro friendly" less dense stuff?

Crap, I've been draining coolant onto the pavement. Is this stuff that bad? I know it's bad if it's in a puddle so an animal can drink it but if it's just a gallon or so running down the driveway into the street, it dissipates alot and there is no puddle. It'll wash away with the next rain.
