Default Need Advice...Buying 1993 Honda Accord 10th Anniversary

I'm in the market for a Honda Accord. I found one and wondered if anyone heard good/bad about the model in question.

It's a 1993 Honda Accord 10th Anniversary. It has 150K miles with ABS, Automatic Tranny, CD, AC, all power. I'm going to see it tonight, but wanted to check with folks to see if anyone was aware of any problems with the 1993 I should be aware of. Buyer's asking for 2K which seems a good deal to me. Thanks to any help you can give.

Main fuel relays, ignition switches, distributors and ABS modules seem to be the only common trouble areas from what I've gathered being on the Honda forums over the years. The timing and balance shaft belts should be replaced if you have no record of previous service. Replace the water pump as well while it's accesable. These items should be replaced every 90k miles. Stay away from a flashing D4 light coupled with a check engine light. This represents a possible transmission problem (such as a transmission control module) The transmission will tend to shift rough, this is normal for that generation Accord and does not indicate a problem (as long as it isn't excesive) If the ABS light is on, chances are the ABS module is no longer operable. The brakes are still 100% operable, but you will not benefit from having ABS. If the factory stereo reads 'CODE' the battery was probably replaced, or recharged after going dead... you must enter a code for the stereo to play. If you can't find the code anywhere in the car, I believe Honda charges about $75 to retrieve it for you. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. If the car vibrates, the motor mounts probably need replacing and/or the engine could benefit from a good tune-up, EGR cleaning, etc. I can't think of much else, the cars in general are great... extremely mechanically sound. Factory parts tend to last a long time and the engines tend to never need much servicing. Check the obvious items such as hoses, accesory belts, fluid levels/condition, etc. I recommend using only Honda automatic transmission fluid in the tranny...and drain and refill it every 30,000 miles. Good luck. I personally think the 4th gens had the best body style. If you have any more questions, let me know.

it really is a good car. I have a '93 accord as well and have little if any problems. I would suggest that you replace the belts if there is no recent record of them being replaced. That is really the only problem I have ever had. The engine usually runs well, it has great gas mileage and is reliable. If you think that you don't get as good of gas mileage as you should, then buy new sparkplugs. That helps a whole lot. Ask the owner if he replaced them recently.

All cars have 'potential' problems, and compared to some other makes/models out there, the Accord has VERY few. Most of the items I mentioned are typical problem areas on an 11 year old car.
