Default How much to paint rear hood?

Some kind person keyed the rear hood of my new 04 coupe last nite. Don't even have the plates yet. Nice, eh? So much for the human race...

Anyway, has anyone had to have a panel the size of my rear hood painted by a honda autorized shop, and if so what did it cost? Please, no wild guesses........i need to know as close as possible for peace of mind, as i won't be able to get an estimate till next weekend. Also, does theft insurance ever include vandalism like this? Thanks.

i dont know what a rear hood is? i thought hoods were on the front of the car...

and it depends on how large the keying is.

are u going to bring the car into a shop or take the "hood" off and bring it in? taking it off would be easier for them, or you could also do the prep work urself to save time and money for them.

or...................you could invest in a spray gun, rent an aircompressor, buy the paint and spray away...

A hood is on the front of a car and a trunk is on the back of the car, even on Porsches. It's not semantics...it's like calling an engine a transmission and expecting to get good answers. You could even be talking about the bumper or something else, I have no idea.

Anyway, this post's answer can be found by picking up the nearest phone and phone book and dialing your Honda dealer and other paint shops to get estimates. They're in business to sell things, in this case their labor, so they'd be happy to give you some prices.

Well, it's in the shop. $475 to spot paint it. They sand the area and prime it and paint it blending the color correctly. Then sand the entire hood and clear coat it. I can't see how they can get it as perfect as it was, but they assured me that it's guaranteed to or they'll redo it if i'm not happy. So wel'll see. But the worse part of this is that whoever did it will likely see it's been fixed and may think what a hoot it would be to do it to my new repair job. So now it's gonna cost me a few hunderd more because i have to buy a security camera system. I do own a shotgun, but unfortunatly that would only help if i knew when it was happening.

when you spray new clear coat on the sanded original, it fills in all the little scratches and blemishes perfectly. It's probably gonna be a little too shiny. Unless the rest of the car is still in really good shape.

Seems i stumbled onto a hell of a good shop. Brought it in yesterday at 10am, picked it up today at noon. And it looks identical to the factory paint. I hope i never need them again, but if i do i know where i'm going.
