Default 6th Gen Theft Deterent

the 6th gens come with those chips in the key and ignition so the motor wont run unless the key with the chip is in there, right? so if i had a copy of a key, it wouldnt work without the chip? does anyone know what those chips are called, and where i could find more info on how they work, and so on? thank you!

The Honda/Acura Immobilizer anti-theft system uses a low-power transponder mounted in the head of the ignition key. When the vehicle is started, the Key Cylinder Module converts the transponder signal and sends a secure, coded signal to the Engine Control Module. If the signal the Engine Control Module is correct, the vehicle will Start.

is there a way to purchase this technology somewhere, for an affordable price? and does it how far of range does the head of teh key have to be from the module? does it have to touch?

The keys are not cheap, last I heard it was $80 at a local dealer to have one made up. As far as range its not far at all, the pickup coil is in the steering column just behind where you put the key in.

Great :slap: And it's Tuscon, like the capital of Arizona. Tuscani is what they call the Tiburon overseas.

Choy, that's a cool project. All it is though is a radio frequency...all you'd have to do I guess (I'm not good at that stuff) is mimic a system like that where you have a seconday transponder that sends a coded signal.

The new 'Vette has a system where the key only has to be inside the car somewhere...then you push a button to start. Apparently a very strong signal.
