i have a 1995 honda accord automatic n whenever i put it n park n try to put it n another gear it gets stuck n wont let me help!!!!

 

it could be somthing with the brake release for the shifter, try pumping the brake and pressing on it really hard before trying to shift.... but thats just a guess

 

i tried everything with the brake like i have to stick a screwdriver n the shift lock just to unlock it

 

I'm having the same problem. Do your brake lights work? I just found out that it is a safety feature that prevents you from leaving park when they don't. Trying to figure out how to fix the light problem now.

Does your key come out of your ingintion when your in "park". I will shift to park, but the light on the dash for P won't come on, so until it comes on my key is stuck, reverse does the same thing too sometimes, especially in the cold, I need to get that fixed, but i heard its 50+ labor, and i don't see it as a big issue right now, but I also noticed i can have the key turned all the way, but with the engine off, and still be able to shift all around if foot is on the break, so I don't know if thats related or what.

 

When you tap on the brakes lightly, you should feel a click on the shifter and it should unlock. Try jerk if off from park and see if it comes out. If not, the locking mechanism is simple, just open the the console and see if anythign is sticking...

 

take your console apart and remove the shift plate, then check to see if the sensor that removes the park lockout when you hit the brakes is busted.

 

Possible brake light switch failure. While it is doing this see if your lights light up.

 

Hi,i am new to this site.But i was wondering how you got on with your car?did you get it fixed?I have the same problem.
My gear stick is stuck in park i have to use my key to unlock the god damm thing i can still drive it around but i have to start it in nutral(wich it is a pain in the a??,my brake lights are not going,my horn aint working either not that i use it much.Can anyone help me plz.
i would really appreciate it.

 

One more thing i have gone through all my fuses,they are fine.
Plz some body help me.
