Default Door lock and power window issues

I have a 98 accord 4dr 4cyl. The other day I washed my car and something went wrong after that. The power door locks are not working and from my driver controls I cant roll down the passenger side windows. I can only control the driver side windows. Also when i pull out the keys I would still be able to control the windows as long as I dont open the doors, well that doesnt work anymore neither. I have to have the key on to control the windows. I do have a viper 500esp alarm system that was installed by the shop a couple of years ago and even when I use the unlock button on the control it still doesnt work, but it does still roll up all my windows.

I checked all the fuses on the car and the alarm and I can figure it out. There is no juice coming to the door lock switches and the passenger side window switches. The fuse for the door locks and the windows are fine. If someone could point me in the right direction as to where I should look now it would be very helpful because this is driving me crazy.

Thanks,
Art

this seems to be happening more frequently with the 98 sedans
the multiplex network is losing communication.

Your window and lock switches don't carry full 12 volts, they supply low voltage signals to the multiplex units (one on each side of the dash) which then send voltage to relays that operate the locks and windows.

I would check the wiring between the door and pillar for breakage, esp if there's ever been body damage to the car.

Check for water intrusion into the front pillars and sides of the dash ( a leaky windshield can let water get into the multiplex units if in just the right place)

(a friend's car was t-boned and both left doors came off to be replaced, found wiring damaged by body shop, it took 2 years to break though)

hey man, I have a 98 4door and I had the same problem with the backseat driver side door lock. The door lock just stopped working and I was like :wtf:

I opened up the door panel and investigated and realized that the door lock actuator stopped working. I opened up the thin white piece of plastic and realized that the motor in the actuator responsible for moving the door lock had just died (it has a Mabuchi motor, same electric motor that they put in toy cars.) I went to the dealership, bought a new actuator ($30.00) and that fixed the problem. (i work at the dealership so it cost me around $22.00, not too expensive.

About your power windows though....you got me there. I have no idea? maybe is a motor problem too?

I know that when I took out my glovebox to change the air filters, that theres a ground wire that if not hooked up properly will cause the power locks not to work. Its located on the passenger side behind the little plastic panel when you open the door. It possible water got in there and shorted something out.

I checked everything I could but I couldnt find the solution. I know its not the alarm because it is sending power to the door locks when i unlock and lock. BTW where is the door lock actuator located? I havent even got to the issue of why I cant control the passenger side windows from the drivers side switch and the situation with the controlling of windows when the key is out as long as doors havent been opened. Now I cant do that, I have to have the key in.

Default easy and free fix for 98 accord window/lock problem

I had the same problem - did an internet search and came up with:

Honda Technical Service Bulletin #99-022 "All power locks and left hand power windows Inoperative"

The bulletin states that the probable cause was “interrupt in power to the multiplex control computer.” The bulletin listed a “multiplex control unit wake up procedure.” The procedure had 5 simple steps:

1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Turn the wiper intermittent time ring to the middle position.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. Verify the operation of all power windows and power door locks.
5. Return the vehicle to the customer.

It worked!

The door lock actuator is located inside of the door at the back end of the door/doorjam. I just had to replace my driver's side in my 95.
