Might trade for 99 Accord- Questions?
Thinking of trading for a 99 Accord LX Sedan with the 2.3 4cyl. I have heard that on earlier EX Civics the keyless entry actually worked through the stock stereo and if you changed to an aftermarket stereo you would lose the use of the keyless entry. If I traded for the LX Accord I would like to add the Honda keyless entry later - but does the 99 Accord's keyless entry system work through the stereo also? I want to add an Alpine CD deck also.
My next question deals with the tune-up interval - I know the current Hondas are advertised at 100,000+ mile tune -up intervals. What about the 99's? What about the distributor cap and rotor? It is amazing that Honda would still use a cap and rotor! How often does Honda recommend changing the cap and rotor?
The car has close to 44,000 miles. About the only thing I saw that bothered me was the fact that the chrome on the intrerior door handles felt like it was going to peel off at any time! The tires have been replaced with Sumitomo HTR200 which did not seem to ride as well as the Accords I have driven with the Michelin tires. I was also amazed to read on the window sticker that the car was built in Japan! I thought all the recent years of Accord Sedans were all built in the US.
Any other things I should be aware of? I have owned only Civics and CRX's so far. My current Honda is a 01 Civic LX Sedan 5 speed.

A few comments.
I'm not sure if you'd have trouble with your keyless entry system if you replace the stock stereo system. However, I do know that Alpine makes good equipment, so you're safe there.
If you do purchase a 4-cylinder Accord, make it a 5-speed manual. If you're bent on going with an automatic, your best bet is to go with the V6.

Keyless was never an option on the LX. It was, however, an accessory. I have an EX so mine came with keyless and the factory alarm. I installed a Kenwood Excellon KDX 815 and had no problems. The milleage seems reasonable, how much do they want for it?

I could say it was "optional to have it."

Roomy backseat. I drove the I4 version before and it has some push too. Not as fast as the V6 of course but still good enough for daily driving.
