Default ignition switch problem

The car will not run unless I hold the key in an exact spot (just slightly back without the starter engaged). If I let go of the key the car will die. I was told that the mechanical part (key) of the ignition needs to be replaced (not the electrical switch part). He said there is a spring that goes bad and the key doesn't hold in place and the car won't run. Can anyone confirm this?

It was the electrical part of the ignition switch. Cost $86 for the part!!!! but it's fixed now.

Seems kinda common, either the lock cylinder or the electrical part. Got a big heavy keychain?? That seems to make the lock cylinder screw up faster.

The dealer said this is a very common problem and that the later models had a recall.
