I'm riding in AVS ES100s and I'm really impressed with their grip. tire.com had a sale on them back in the spring for 100/tire for 215/45/17s. that was a bargin I couldn't pass up.

Do NOT get either the Nitto NT450 or the Toyo FZ4 (they're basically the same tire). Get any other tire of your choice, but don't get either of those two.

I'm on my second set of 235/40/ZR18 Nitto 555 Extreme tires. The grip is good, wet traction is above average. The first set lasted 35K miles with regular rotation and balancing.

Yeah, that is the problem that I am having with my Kumho 712's. With all of the replies I think I am going with the Yoko AVS 100's. I found them at Tires Plus for 100 bucks each and only 12 bucks each to mount, and balance them with free rotations, and I don't think that I can beat that deal.

Thanks for the info. peoples!

I have my first set still...they are the shit and I can imagine running anything else for daily/auto cross combo use.

I know a lot of people here like yokos, but i gotta put in my 2 cents. Maybe there are good yokos, but i tried a set of yokohama avids and these were w/o a doubt the worse tires i ever had. Not only did they track in rain grooves like they were rails, (read:jerky as hell) but they were so scary traction-wise that i had to dump them 1/2 way thru thier tread wear for fear of getting into an accident. The final straw that made me chuck them was when i was pulling up to a crosswalk and the tires broke loose when i braked for a pedestrian. The screech made her stop in her tracks with eyes wide open like she was about to be mowed down. Needless to say i felt like a jerk. And mind you, i wasn't going anywhere near fast enough for that to happen. Scared the hell out of me, but that wasn't the only incident. It was just the FINAL one. I'm not saying anyone here who's touting them as good tires is wrong, but i'd stay away from the avid model for sure. I personally wouldn't buy any yokohama after that experience, but thats just me.
