I'm sorry to hear about your car...I've been there. Unfortunately when you hit someone from the rear the cops call it "your fault" no matter what. But, the truck driver acted illegally by leaving the scene of an accident. He was probably drunk or had no license, etc.

I once rear-ended a trailer, being towed by a pickup. The trailer was a large box, completely concealing the truck in front. Well, the trailer didn't have any brake lights even mounted on it, so when he stopped it caught me off guard and I had no time to react. He had cut me off too, so I was already close to him when he stopped. I slammed him, and in turn he slammed a pickup in front of him. The cops conceded that his trailer was illegal, but I still got pinned with fault, he got fault for hitting the guy in front of him.

 

How low is too low for the sensors not to work?

really not that bad, i got hit not worse but more damage. i had the car park and the jigga in front of me n his van decided to reverse without looking and n the cell phone same time and just slam n front of me with his metal bumper n the back, he fkup my front bumper hood grill and lucky i had my 1 peace projector install and those light are hard and they were just scratch very little can hardly see it. i was thinking u have more damage. i got 3gs form his insurance and waste it $500 to fix my car i was so angry like a dog because i had just install a brand new bumper i was hit by a yellow cab few days ealier. i was so angry i punch the driver side window and did some damage, just wish i had punch the idiot
