In your Accords, Regular or synthetic oil? I use Mobile 1 synthetic in my S2000 because of the high rpm's, but regular oil in my wifes Accord. should I switch her oil?

Accord = Castrol Synthetic blend...Costco has a case for real cheap.

Tundra = "Full" synthetic, Mobile one, Costco also has this real cheap.

Everyone is gonna have mixed views about which oil to use, and that debate can go on forever. Basically the only reason why I use the blend is the accord was not purchased new by me, and it's old, and I might be switching it out for another car.

Someone in my class told me, he read a study somewhere where they analyized synthetic and regular conventional oil under a microscope and found conventional to have a gritty look to it, and full synthetic was smooth. Whether or not he is full of it I don't know...but I use that as my basis for choosing synthetic, for my Tundra as I bought it brand new and i'm keeping that truck for at least 10 years.

-accord: amsoil xl7500 5w30 full synthetic
-civic: same
-s2000: amsoil series 2000 0w30 race oil full synthetic
hamp oil filters on all 3..

if the car isn't driven hard, changing the oil every 3500 will be fine. if you want to upgrade, synthetic blends are a good choice.

ive used normal oil both hondas ive owned. I hear synthetic blows seals if you switch on older cars. I bought both cars with over 100k on em so not worth it to switch now.

10w30 Full syn. I switched with about 120k on my engine and have had no noticable problems. This has always been a HUGE debate. You'll hear people on both sides of it, so prepare to get flames...

I have been useing natural 5w30 in all my vehicles...well except the boat. I also have heard that after 75 - 100 K miles it's not good to switch to syn. It causes sludgeing and seals to dry out, I have heard this...don't know it first hand.

i hope synthetics don't have that kind of adverse affects. that would suck in more ways than twelve.

I think this was brought about because people were using regular one change, synthetic, regular, and changing back and forth. The gaskets expand and shrink a little each time, weakening them. If you change once, then you'll be ok. Of course, if you have 150k miles, I really would question why you would want to change anyway.

That's pretty much the story I got. Why someone would switch back and forth like that is beyond me though.
