Default 1996 Accord EX Problems

My accord is throwing codes...71, 72,73,74...which are misfires in cyl 1-4...i dont know if this is a malfunction or the engine is actually misfiring. I dont feel it misfiring but at high speeds there is a small shimmy. The VSS code that i was getting went away. Now when the rpm stays above 3500 for a few sec the check engine light starts to blink... I cant figure out what is wrong...im thinking that its a electrical problem. I checked the coil and got a resistance rating of .9 the book says between .4-.6 I dont know if this is the problem. Does anyone know what the sparkplug wire resistance is suppose to be? Today the car stalled on me while i was accelerating and once yesterday while idleing. Ive tried reseting the ecu after changing the rotor and distributer cap but it comes on again around 65mph or when the rpm stays up for a while.

DONT DRIVE IT, if the check engine light is blinking, it means Catalyst damaging misfires are happening, meaning its destroying your Catalytic converter and O2 sensors. I would bet anything its your plug wires, mainly because I had the identical problem in my old accord.....

I have tried three different kinds of sparkplug wires...and two different kinds of plugs...It still is happening...

You know it just might be your coil, I'd say that or possibly even your EGR system is clogged, that can cause mis-fires also.

I was thinking that it might be the coil but wouldnt it be misfiring at low speeds too. It seems as the cel only comes on at higher speeds...

na, the misfires are very minimal at low speeds, not enough to set off the CEL, its the high rpm's where it really starts to miss, I'd bet the coil is your prob.

It could also be the distributor. Mine was doing the same thing. Mis-fiting on 2-3-4, and would buck between 1500 and 2500 RPM. I whipped the snot out of it after pulling out in front of someone, and it went away the next day. Previously I had done a full tune up, and the check engine light still came on, and still showed the same codes. After it's beating, I noticed the rough ide went sway, and the next day the check light went off. hAsn't come back on in a week. But my mechanic said distributors are very common to be bad. if it is, try DISTRIBUTOR KING. An OEM unit is about $500.00.
