Default car wont start

awhile ago my 91 accord with 100xxx died while i was sitting at a traffic light. car had troubles starting then it barely ran. drove it back to my school shop couldnt get the car to go past 1500 rpm with it floored. had a lot more troubles starting it the next day having to floor it and hold the key for awhile and if i let off the gas it would die. next day car wont start at all and hasnt since then. the timing is correct on the cam. checked the distributor noticed the cap and rotor were bad replaced those. took out my distridutor replaced with another used distributor using my new cap and rotor. replaced the plugs. fuel pressure is 37 with vacuum connected. map sensor and coolant sensor are also fine. checked the wires for spark. checked all fuses. one was blown cooling fan however car had never overheated did replace the fuse. and by looking at the plugs it seems that it is running rich. tommorow i am going to check the iac any other ideas as to what the problem could be thanks Joe

Check your main relay(under dash, by steering wheel), if it won't start, would it ever not start when the car was really warm? Those main relays are notorious for failing in the 4th gen

after reading a page i found threw google it said that my accord would not have fuel pressure if the main relay went. i do have 37 psi with the vacuum connected so acording to that page my main relay would have to be good. so any other ideas anyone? thanks again Joe

we got the car runing again today it is only running on two cylinders however. it seems to be running extremely rich. the plugs are black when we pull them out but they are not wet. we took the bolts off the distributor and tried advancing it but it didnt run any different.

runs on cylinder #3 and #4... compression is 200-205 across each cylinder... pulled out plugs #1 and #2 and the firing didn't change at all... took out the plugs and tested for spark... there IS spark through the wires. maybe a 3 and 4 wires are bad but can still get spark?? can't get good connection on the spark plug??? help us out!

also about the fuel pressure.. it was 37 with vacuum on... thats ~47psi with it off.. that seems a little high, could the fuel pressure regulator be bad?

today we took downpipe off thinking the cat might be clogged. still had the same problem. then we took the tubing that goes from the pcv to intake manifold off. there was no vacuum but the air was coming out instead like the exhaust is all backed up. we are thinking that the egr valve may have failed and is blocking the airway so exhaust is going back up the intake. also on my ecu we checked the ground lines and to of them were bad. we just used conectors and made a new ground for the two wires right by the ecu. still not any better except now the car fires up a lot easier. then again the battery had been getting lower and we have had it on the charger so that might be part of it as well. anyone have any stories about when there egr went bad like how did it act??? i wont be able to work on the car again until monday thanks for any ideas
