Water is fine to use as long as you're not soaking the same area consistantly. Keep the hose moving around quickly and try to avoid critical areas like the distributor/coil pack, plug wire seals, etc.
you can wrap things like distributor/coil pack, battery with aluminum foil. you can use plastic warp but aluminum foil is just easier to use. just don't short the battery terminals together.
