Default 4th gen accord driveaxle hub nut issues

Having extreme difficulties getting my driveaxle hub nut off. Put a tire iron in the wheel lugs to keep it from spinning, used a freakin' air compressor with an air ratchet attachement on it, nada. Me and my friend tried jumping on a jumbo-sized torque bar to get it off, just managed to dig a hole in the concrete of his driveway.

Is there something painfully simple to this or are we just being pansies?

Only thing i can think of is trying this after driving for a while to get the whole assembly hot.

Suggestions?

there's a saying that i like to abide by. "learn when to quit." if it's beyond your means (which sounds like it is) then just take it to a shop.

We're thinking about just renting a bigger air compressor. The one we're using now isn't that big, and isn't a heavy duty one.

I do remember the hub bolt on the Honda's quite torquey, I think it was something like 254 lbs, I have to check though. What I did is, I had an assistant step on the brakes, while I used a breaker bar to bust that sucker loose. Then again, I am a fairly strong guy (not like body builders or anything), but I did put a lot of effort into it though as I remember. I heard a story about someone stomping on a breaker bar to bust it loose, and somehow he missed, and the breaker bar flipped off the socket, and hit him right in the "danger zone". :chuckles: Needless to say, it was a one-hit knockout for him, and it took him a bit to recover.

You could always soak the bolt in penetrating oil overnight and try again. Some use simple WD-40 also instead of penetrating oil.

*cringes in pain* that musta been swollen for weeks.

question: why are you removing the hub assembly? (for my own curiosity).

Replacing the rotors. Driveaxle nut's gotta come off to get to it.

you plan on hammering out the hub afterwards? or you going to try and unpress the hub/rotors somehow? i only ask this because i want you to make sure you're not biting off more than you can chew. hub-over-rotor sucks.

Really in a 4th Gen they are pressed on? I only thought that was in the fifth gens. Then again, I never replaced the front discs, only the rears, and those where not pressed on.

it sucks definitely, as we are finding out. We know the procedure, we just can't execute it at the moment as we are stuck trying to wrestle this bolt off. Tried the pressing on the brake and using the breaker bar. It's a better method (and painfully simple) to use, but it appears that we're just not strong enough. Biggest one of us is 180lbs. I myself am 145 lol. We have a beastly 300lb person lined up to take a crack at it sometime. Hope
