Default Engine Immobilizer...Does it work?

Im kind of curious to know.
Is the "chip in the key" effective against auto theft?

02 accord ex.

My friends brother is a cop here in NYC.
He recently showed me a report on the auto theft around certain areas of the metro. area.

( Emphasis on he Bronx here ). Most of the Accord stolen range as late as 2000.
Now first thing that came into mind was the Engine Immobilizer. Maybe it does work?
( I know if thieves want it etc...tow truck etc.. ) The question here is is the ENGINE IMMOBLIZER EFFECTIVE. Sorry for the caps, just gotta get the point out...

As always thanks for ur replies.

without the proper encoded key in the ignition the car will not start... the chip sends a signal to the ECU to allow the fuel pump to work. Without the chip the motor will crank over, but not get any fuel.

You can verify this by making a copy of your key at a hardware store... try to use it and the car wont start.

The car cannot be started without the key. Even if you go to the fuse panel and cross wires... it will only crank the motor, it wont start. The computer needs the signal from the key to allow the fuel pump to operate.

Default key

I have a spare key that is an exact copy on a 90-97 accord key blank without the transponder in it. It works in all of the locks, but as mentioned above, the engine will just keep cranking and the green light in the dash will flash continuously.

DEI has an immobilizer bypass module that allows the car to be remotely started

The chip in the key turns on the fuel pump. If you bypass the fuel pump immobilizer and can get it to run, you can start the car without a chipped key. Oh-NO! Now I've given crooks the secrete!
