Default question regarding distributor on '92 accord..

my question is, was the distributor on the '92 accord the same across all trim levels, and have there been any special changes since that would prevent us (the person i'm asking for) from buying a replacement on say ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33690

they were looking at that part ^ in particular, and then called a honda dealer to verify that it was the right one. the dealer gave some story about the distributor having changed, and that the only way to get the correct piece would be to go through them, since it's not made anymore. sounds to me that they're just trying to make a buck..

any help would be appreciated. i know nothing about accords.

thanx.

There were two different distributors put in the cars, a Tec and a Hitachi. The Tec distributor has an external coil, and you can identify it since the cap has a 5th wire going into it, the coil power. The Hitachi seems to have an internal coil, and only 4 wires on the cap. You can identify whats on your car by looking at that. What kind of price are they getting on ebay?

Hitachi:

There also should be a tag or stamping somewhere on the distributor, see if the seller can find it...or at least give you pics of it.

haha should have read your thread closer. That looks like the Tec unit, but you shoudl ask the seller for an overhead view of the cap (like the images above) $185 for a new distributor isnt so bad, for a quality brand. They dont say what the brand is though....
