Default Clutch Pack and slave cylinder

hey guys i took my car to get the clutch fixed and the guy said that w/o getting inside, all he could tell was that the fingers on the pressure plate are gone, so he said that if that is the problem it would be $676 for the clutch pack, slave cylinder, parts, and labor. am i getting screwed? oh and its $55/hr

Most definately getting screwed.

If he just told you that it was the pressure plate why would he be including the price of a slave cylinder.

A good figure would be around 500 for clutch pressure plate throwout beraing and resurfacing the flywheel.

MOst places will do it for even cheaper, you just have to shop around.

Whats wrong with your clutch?

i found clutch assembly and resurface for 425, and i live in idaho where everywhere is a rip...

Also can you even SEE the pressure plate from the outside, how could he tell the fingers were broken without "getting inside"??

he was figuring this quote based on him seeing nothing wrong on the outside so he said that the fingers of the pressure plate COULD be messed up and IF SO, then that was the quote he gave me 676 TOTAL that includes labor and parts and all

also i called the dealership, and a clutch pack and slave cylinder from them would be 376 bucks and this guy MAY charge me 396 for the clutch shit and 280 for labor which is 55/hr if this IS what is wrong with it. which is correct considering he would get it from them plus tax......also he said that this may not even be what is wrong with it for sure until he gets inside the tranny so....

What's wrong with the clutch? Is it making noise(if so what kind/when)? What are other symptoms?

The clutch is not that hard to do. I say dig in...

If you only need the stock (style) clutch, go to Napa. Or e-mail me, I will hook you up with MY local Napa. You should easily be able to do the clutch/slave for $275.

Drive to Ohio I will help in my Garage.

10-4.

well praxis

one day, i wen to park it and when i shut it off, i put it in gear, but the clutch "fell" to floor, as if there was no pressure at all, so I popped the hood, checked the fluid level, it was LOW so i added some fluid to it and it barely took any in so i pumped the clutch a little but it didnt stiffen up or take in any more fluid and I couldnt even get it in gear when the car was turned on. So the next day i pumped the clutch some more and it stiffened up and felt normal, i started it up, put some more fluid in it pumped it some more, since i was able to shift, i immediatly drove the car to a garage down the road. oh and also, at this point the friction point on the clutch was VERY close to the floor. Anyway, i told the guy what happened, he said he would take a look at it and then would call me and see what he found, so today, he called and said ^the above post^. point is, it may not even be the clutch and it may not even be 676 dollars. but IF it is these things i were just wondering if i would be getting hosed.

are u losing fluid?? if you are, u probably have a leak and will have to replace something along hte clutch hydraulics. Idunno if your pressure plate fingers are bad or anything... but in any case:

www.clutchcityonline.com
you can get an exedy oem replacement clutch kit for just a tad over $100, new clutch disc, pressure plate, and bearing.

New hydraulic parts might be another $100-200. your accord is a 94 LX? i can try to lookup the OEM part numbers for you to try www.hparts.com to buy OEM parts cheap.

Labor is a bit though for changing a clutch. changing hydraulics should be much less.

Yeah, if you are leaking...that could cause a problem. Check for leaks and write back.
