Brake Problem...help
Well for those of you that read my trhead about ym brake fluid going down here is the continuation of it...
I had it taken to the dealer today, they did the diag for free (yay) and found that the accumulator in the ABS was leaking, its like a $250 part, plus labor...
Now my question, would a leakin accumulator cause my brake fluid to go down, this repair is going to cost me a lot so i just want to make sure the dealer is diagnosing this probloem correctly. It was my understanding that the ABS and regular braking system were independant of eachother on hondas...so i just want to make sure that this would be the cause of my fluid going down...
Thanks
EDIT:
"Always remember the regular brake system and the ABS system should never transfer brake fluid between each other."
This is a quote from this site

Ummmm...is the dealer TRYING to rip me off? wtf
It also says "Low accumulator pressure will set a Code 1-8 in the system." My check engine light was NEVER on, i noticed the brake fluid was going down about 2 weeks ago...

this same thing happened to me i think about two days ago, except my abs light came on, but i know that i was low on fluid to begin with when i bought the car.....the brake and anti lock brake fluids ARE seperate from each other because when your anti lock brakes stop working your braking system still works fine. As far as the dealer ripping you off, if the part in your anti lock brake system is leaking, then it should be replaced, i guess i'm just confused on how you think the dealer is trying to rip you off?
Well i never saw the peice in the ABS leaking, i see that the fluid in the master cyl. res. is dropping, so them telling me that somthign in my ABS is leaking, when a fluid level that isnt connected to the ABS is dropping, that makes me think they are just guessing and trying to rip me be misdiagnosing the problem...
BUT i got my car back now and the accumulator was shot, they showed it to me and it was pretty bad, my ABS fluid was almost dry...
so i guess its a good thing they replaced that whether or not is was the cause of the brake fluid going down in the master cyl. res.
He was nice enough to run 2 quarts of brake fluid through my regular system and check from the master cylinder back to each wheel for leaks, couldnt find any...but i like the feel of freshly bled brakes...stops on a dime
got rid of the half inch or so of free play at the top of the pedal, now i push it, and the brakes work right away
