I have a code for my stereo, nut when I punch it in, nothing happens. Do I have to let the car/radio run(be in on position) for an hour before I try the code?

 

depends on if you were punchin in the code wrong a couple times
i think after a couple of errors the u have to wait oherwise it must be the wrong code.
if its the original radio that was in your car just go to honda and show the registration to them and ask for the radio code. (they might have to call you back with the code i dont think they keep it on the computers but i may be wrong)

just recently I had to get my code from the dealership I got my car from. I got my car used so they didn't have the code. At first they wanted to charge me $80. I laughed, and one of the service guys pulled me aside and told me how to remove the stock unit and said to call in with the seral number for the unit. But then they were really cool and did it for free. Will enough persuasion you should be able to get the code one way or another.

 

You have to have the ignition on and the radio on. You should see the word CODE in the window. If you see ERROR ... then you have tried too many times and it will not take the code no matter how many times you try it.

What you have to do in this case is disconnect BOTH cables from the battery and touch them together for about 30 seconds. Then reinstall them and turn the ignition on and the radio and you should now see the word CODE. Put in the 5 digit number and on the 5th one you should hear a 'beep' and the radio should come to life.

 

Same thing happened to me awhile back. They wanted $80 for the code. The guy said "80 bucks". I said "Come on, man". He said "sorry bud, take it or leave it". I said loudly "$80? NO, I ALREADY HAVE THE RADIO, I JUST NEED THE CODE." The service/parts desk was acutally in the showroom and the guy stared me down like he wanted to punch me. I moved closer and quietly told the guy that I was on my 5th Honda, and I wasn't about to pay $80 for a code on a car I paid $21,000 for, and if he didn't give it to me, I had no problem making a fool of myself. He gave me the code, but no smile.

Sometime those Honda dealers get a little conceited. Just need some coaxing.

that sucks, if my dealership pulled that shit I'd just go to the other dealership down the street. besides if you get the car through them they should give you the code. that's bs man:bs: I'd think about using another dealership.

 

Why change dealerships? I got what I wanted and had fun doing it.

hey i dont know how getto the shops are n ur area but here u dont need no code, just give the guy $5 or $10 whatever and he can do the job manually, is just a stupid chip the radio has, so the anti-theft crap is trash garbage uselss.

 

the honda delarship in Alcoa, Tennesee and in Knoxville can be real dicks sometimes. they charged my sister 80 for the code, when they are the ones who lost it while doing maint. on the car.
