ready to fix up my car :)
hey everybody! I am new to the forums and just wanted to ask a little advice. I have a little extra cash and want to fix up my car. I want to start off by lowering it, and am thinking of going with lowering springs.. any suggestions/warnings would be greatly appreciated. One thing that worries me tho, is.... I dont know what its called, but when ppl lower their cars, the tires look like they start to sag inward and wear quickly... well that and I have heard the ride really suffers. Is there any way around that. Thanks for any help. BTW I drive a 94 Accord EX...
Welcome aboard.
Look into H&R, Neuspeed, or Eibach lowering springs.
For struts/shocks look into Koni (yellows), KYB (AGX's), Tokico, Bilstien (HD's), etc... depending on your cash flow.
About the tires sagging inward, thats called negative camber. A camber kit and alignment shop can fix it.

just some dollar values for you to know based on my own purchase this summer
$160 for Neuspeed Sport Springs
$340 for KYB AGX Struts
$100 for installation b/c my dad has the hook-up but usually $200-250 unless you do it yourself which you can also(I heard about 5 hours with another person helping)
The more you lower, i.e. "race springs" 2+ inches, the worst off your camber will be where as I have "sport springs" 1.75 inches and my camber is not bad at all.
BTW, about getting springs only and not struts, it's been asked so many times. Bottom line is, since your car is older the original struts are probably on there. Which means they can "blow" and leak oil in 1 day, 1 week, or 1 month or by some lucky chance, 1 year. Which means you'll end up replacing them and go through the pain of taking everything apart again. I highly suggest waiting for more cash, or if you do have it now, do it right and get the struts too b/c the originals aren't meant to accomodate the preload due to shorter springs which causes more stress on them. Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice, omg I just replaced the struts on my car 2 weeks ago! Hahaha, I wasn't thinking. I know you should get more high performance struts when you lower your car, but I was hoping I could get by with them for a while, but I guess its right to do things right the first time. Thanks for the advice guys. I can't wait for the weekend
i made the same mistake u did, i have been drivin on mine for bout 4000 miles now...no problems, but i am saving up for some new shocks, but if i just have to drop ur car now...like i did...then go for it, but if u dont have to, dont...the ride isnt bad, atleast not for me...
depends on how low you wanna go? if you get the eibach pro-kits (about 1.5 drop), u may get away w/o a camber kit, but if you go any lower, a camber get is recommended if you wanna keep your tires for long...
i'm riding on eibach sportlines (about 1.7 drop) mated with agx on ingalls camber kit and ride is great. I also suggest that you obtain everything (springs, shocks, camber kit if needed) at once and install at once, saves you some install time and headache
so yea...check out what kinds drop you want, then check out the brands....eibach, h&r, neuspeed... then shocks, kyb, koni, tokico...and like bonestock said...depends on your cashflow

wow, thanks again guys... I really have no idea how low I want to go. I have 18 inch wheels and low profile tires on my car. Right now all I want is for my car to look good, but I have to drive it too, so what would be a good drop? I am thinking of getting a body kit in the future as well, would I have to think about that now before I lower my car? Thanks for all the info guys:thumbup:
on 18s, i think the prokit would be fine unless you wanna be tucked...someone correct me if i'm wrong....also if u get a body kit, you shouldn't go that low cause you're gonna scrap...umm...if you got the cash, maybe you should look into a coilover setup...look up the tein coilovers...but it all depends on your budget....
right now I have about 2G, that's with next quarter tuition covered:naughty: I have heard bad things about coilovers, but from the feedback I am getting tonight, and analyzing the prices, maybe coilovers are the way to go since I'm gonna have to get the springs and shocks anyway. bumski thanks for the reply
