Mainly the reason for the high pricing for AEM is that their intakes are designed specifically for the make and model of car. They are tested and have a C.A.R.B. E.O. Number. What is that you ask? Direct from AEM's website

"AEM intake systems carry or are pending approval for a California Air Resources Board Executive Order (CARB EO) number exempting them from the prohibitions of California Vehicle Code (CVC) 27156 which states that you cannot modify your car in the area of the emission control system. The C.A.R.B. E.O. number allows you to legally install and use the AEM intake system on your car."

There are plenty of other reason why they are priced so high... anyone else with their 2 cents feel free to comment on my post..

JDM.. it stands for Japanese Domestic Market (like USDM over here) ... in layman terms JDM is usualy parts and what not made over in Japan only. Since they are rare here, lots of ppl want them.

well we had a thread on this, some are for and against AEM, some say ebay cheap ones do the same with a K&N filter(which is a must), my opinion is AEM is better, designed for your car/looks better/ dont have to worry if it mounts correctly, legal part. i bought my AEM short ram for 100.

If you aren't in CA then CARB exempt doesn't really apply to you.

Bought my AEM Short Ram for LESS than a hundred. It just makes me feel better knowing that that model is designed for my car and not just a grouping of cars. It mounts right, looks friggin awesome, and really...you get what you pay for. I don't regret getting that AT ALL. Conversely, ebay intakes are $30...and again...you get what you pay for.

great, thanks for the info guys! I was wondering why is K&N so great? When I bought my car it had an aftermarket air filter and it looks like a K&N but I dont know for sure... is there a way to find out?

If the cotton gauze is like a red pink color than you probably have a K&N filter.
