you asked what was wrong. i told you. i just asked two technicians and a service advisor here as well, and they said that's the problem 99% of the time. the only other thing that causes this is a cracked manifold, which creates a genuine misfire condition, and you would feel it while driving. this generally only happens on the DX & LX models, which have manifold convertors...which are pieces of shit and crack from the catalytic converter heat all the time. you have an EX, which has a normal exhaust manifold and an underbody converter.
if you insist that i am wrong, and don't want to fix it, fine. i've only been doing this for 2 years, what do i know right? drive it all you want. nothing else is gonna happen to your car from this, other than the light coming on all the time. it won't cause any problems with driveability, and the car will not "blow up" from this. my check engine light is off. i don't really care if you choose to have yours stay on. all i am doing is offering the information you asked for.
dealerships are there to fix the problem correctly, and inform you what else is wrong with your car. you don't have to do any suggested work that they tell you about. if they say, hey we fixed your ECM for free, but your brakes need to be replaced, tell them you don't want to do it, and leave.
but apparently you have faith in your local autozone, who gladly told you to replace O2 sensors and maybe try to fix your glow plug wiring, since you have a non vtec DIESEL civic. you paid them, didn't you? and look how far that got you.
think a little bit about this one.
ur the man dude.
Chick... listen to the man. He's helping and you're not listening.
If you don't feel comfortable actually driving to the dealership, call the service department and tell them that you heard about the defect and you wanted to have it looked at WITH NO CHARGE!
If it's a defect, they have to look at it and fix it for FREE!
And he's absolutely right about leaving if they try to fix something else. That's their job, they are supposed to make money for the dealership, but you can refuse anything. The problem won't get fixed because you're not able to fix it regardless of what AutoZone tells you.
I'd go right back down there and take the O2 sensor back that you bought and go right to the dealership.
Heck, I don't even really like you and I'm trying to help. :screwy:
