Either his car has some serious issues (like running on three cylinders) or your car has an engine swap. There is no way that an HF would be faster then a '92 GS auto, I know this because I have owned a perfect condition '92 GS automatic.

Let's play with some numbers:

88 CRX HF (manual)
62hp 90ft-lbs
1967lbs
2.95 final drive

92 Integra GS (auto)
140hp, 126ft-lbs
2701lbs
4.428 final drive

You should check your engine code to make sure the previous owner didn't swap it.
