i used to run before class/work every morning. running early in the morning has an amazing way of clearing your head and waking you up. when you get to class/work, you will be able to think much better as compared to sleeping a little longer and doing your normal morning routine. definitely try running before work!
Yeah I try to do treadmill right after I lift, but that usually stretches the workout to 2 hrs. Did you eat something before you went running? I'm thinking a granola bar or something of that sort should do the trick.
