I knew I shouldnt have ever got involved in this conversation while I was at work between calls. Let me take a few min to clarify what I typed in a haste earlier.
Heres how I feel about the whole situation: The war was wrong for many reasons. We had no proof to go in there. No one else wanted us to go in (dont say Blair did, he's Bush's bitch). There would be far too many civilian deaths and there already have been. It's going to cost America TRILLIONS of tax dollars and now the rest of the world is going to jump on the anti-american bandwagon.
Now lets go in depth with that a little bit:
1)We had no proof. We still dont have proof. Odds are most likely, we will never have proof. I have more WMD in my kitchen in the forms of cleaning chemicals than Saddam has in all of Iraq, possibly. Without that proof, how are we going to look? How is our "president" going to look in front of the whole world? There went about 200 years of American policy about "not striking first" right out the door.
2)We all saw for weeks and weeks how many people around the world were against this war. The leaders of many nations were against it. Hell, even the Pope was against it! That says something when the Pope steps in and gives an opinion about anything. The majority of Americans (you know, the ones who didnt vote for him the first time) were against this war. Unfortunately, no one in our great democratically elected govt really gave a damn.
3)There have been so many deaths in Iraq over the last decade. True, Saddam and his henchment were royal dicks and did some horrible things, but the main killer of these civilians (until the last 2 months) have been starvataion and lack of medicine due to economic sanctions instead of bombs. There were many other courses of action to help Iraqi people. I only bring this up because Bush's focus will soon be "freeing the Iraqi people" instead of WMD.
4)This war is going to cost the American taxpayer what? I think the last figure was around $8 BILLION for the first month of war and occupation. $8 BILLION!! Do you know how many school's we can build here in FL to ease overcrowding? With $8 BILLION we can finally balance the ****ing budget perhaps? 8 years of Clinton and RECORD economic stability and now 2 years into Emperor Bush's reign and $8 Billion into a war and a defecit instead of surplus like we had before. Perhaps we should just pay for this out of the Bush family's pocketbook? If you can buy the presidency, I'm sure you can afford to conquer Iraq.
5)Now ... do you ever stop to think about WHY the rest of the world hates America? Think about what we've done to the rest of the world for the last 60 years. Have we forgotten 1953 how we overthrew the democratically elected Prime Minister Mossadeq of Iran and installed a dictator in his place? How about in the mid 50's when we went into Guatemala? We overthrew their leader as well, and almost half a million civilians died in the process. 1963 we assasinated the president of South Vietnam. How about the coup we staged in South America in 1973 to remove the president of Chile and put Augusto Pinochet in charge? I guess we also forgot the Afghan-Russian war in which the CIA funded Osama Bin Laden and his fellow "freedom fighters" as Regan put it to kill the Soviets? They later used that incredible training for you know what. After that we gave BILLIONS to Saddam and WMD to fight Iran. He was probably pretty pissed off to find out how we were helping them as well. When Iraq invaded Kuwait the first time (unprovoked as you put it which is true) they were using weapons WE gave to them. Yep. Bush the 1st put another dictator in charge after we won that war. Before we wanted Bin Laden for the 9/11 tragedy, we were friends of the Taliban. We gave them over $250M in aid hoping to get a pipeline for oil put through there. Now we put the Northern Alliance in charge which seem to be a bit more brutal than the Taliban ever were.
So do I think Bush should be impeached? I dont know at this point to be honest. He can be but like its been stated earlier, he wont be convicted of anything. I'm glad Dubya's
watchin out for me.
