Sounds like valve springs and bushings are bent. You may actually be very lucky, because instead of a whole new engine you may only need the head rebuilt. Second gear at 70 mph usually means valve float, piston damage, and if anything, overheating. You may want to have an oil and water pressure check now, too. As well as compression check. At that RPM you never know what seals or rings you may have burned.
