According to the Car Talk guys, Bob and Ray, there is no advantage to using synthetic engine oils. I ran petrolium based oils in my Toyota Cressida for 193,000 miles, and it never required any engine work. It still ran strong, and I was never afraid to run it up to the 6500 rpm redline.
